Georgia Started Fall Camp. Here's What's Actually True.

Y'all, Kirby had the Dawgs strap on pads Wednesday. And you know, every damn body with a TV show, podcast, or blog (including yours truly) has an opinion already.

Quarterback: Not a story

Our Raburn Co. boy, Gunner Stockton, is QB1 going into the 2026 season. In 2025, he threw for 2,894 yards, 24 touchdowns, and ran for 10 more himself; hell, he even walked out of the SEC Championship with the MVP trophy. Kirby's own words: "Gunner's been awesome for our team. He's a selfless player. He's a winner. He cares about his team." If you're still asking who Georgia's quarterback is, honey, catch the hell up.

Now, the only real question any Dawg fan should have is, who the hell will back up Gunner? As of now, Puglisi's ahead of Montgomery for QB2. Which I won't lie, I have questions about. I was at G Day this past spring, and let me tell y'all, Montgomery, that boy brought it to the damn table. Now before I start gettin' Montgomery pho tattoos, I wanna see more of what this kid brings on the field. From the little I did see in the spring, I think he's the better backup. Puglisi didn't wow me. And Darlin', all the QBs, including the coaches, grew mustaches this offseason. Now y'all, I'm a bettin' woman, and I have a strong feeling this new QB room is a group we ain't ever seen, and one our opponents need to be scared as shit of.

Six Receivers Walked Out the Door and Took the Damn Playbook With Them

If y'all've been living under a rock and didn't know, Georgia lost six of its top seven receivers. Honey, six. And that number's sitting in my stomach like bad gas station sushi, because come September, somebody's gotta catch the damn ball.

London Humphreys, the Vanderbilt transfer, is the presumed WR1, and honey, that's a lot of weight resting on 18 catches. But y'all don't sleep on the man who when Georgia was 4th-and-6 against Tennessee, down 8 in the fourth quarter, Humphreys hauled in a 28-yard touchdown to force overtime, and the Dawgs won that one 44-41. Small sample, big damn moments.

Isiah Canion is the one I want you to get cozy with. He's a Georgia Tech transfer, Warner Robins kid, and Kirby said the quiet part out loud: "We got a receiver that we probably should have gotten out of high school... he went to a rival school, and he got better... we're excited as hell about Canion." Everybody else in that room, darlin', we are silently praying for, because they are young and unproven, and it's the most-watched position group on the roster heading into September.

Offensive line: set. Pass rush: not.

CBS ranked Georgia's O-line No. 1 in the country, ahead of Ohio State and Kentucky. Bobo's back from foot surgery and is ready for the season opener. Greene at left tackle is proven. Y'all don't need to worry about this group.

What the hell we do damn need to worry about is the pass rush. Georgia had 20 sacks all of last season. That's 117th in the country. If that damn number doesn't move, that's the difference between winning the SEC and losing in January again, sweetie. The linebackers, Raylen Wilson and Chris Cole, are as good as anybody against the run. Getting to the quarterback is the thing that has to show up in camp.

Kirby on Cole: "There's not a higher character player on our team than Chris Cole... he embodies what we want in terms of effort, toughness."

Injuries

Dante Dowdell was in an ATV accident and ain't even with the team right now, no timeline back. Kirby, softer than I've ever heard him: "The most important thing for Dante right now is that he gets healthy himself." Man before player, and I respect it.

Kyron Jones is still hurting, still limited out there. But listen, the real good news? Bobo and Gabe Harris are healthy, y'all. Those were the two we lost right when it mattered most last year, and now they're both back and moving. The staff's just being smart about it, keeping their reps light during camp so they don't burn out. Ain't no sense in pushing it when you can take it easy. I'll take healthy and cautious over hurt any damn day.

The TV noise

Greg McElroy's been calling Georgia the team to beat in the SEC, period: "Georgia's still the team to beat in this league until somebody beats them for it." He's also naming Stockton a championship-caliber quarterback and Georgia one of four teams nationally that can win it all.

Paul Finebaum's playing the other side: "Kirby Smart can't seem to win the Sugar Bowl. He's won two SECs in a row, four out of five, two national championships sprinkled in, but there are some fans who are pretty uneasy about the last two seasons and how they've ended." Same week, he also said he likes Georgia's chances and doesn't think the schedule beats them. Pick a lane, Paul.

Josh Pate has Georgia at 7 in his personal poll, behind Miami. The actual Coaches Poll has Georgia at 3. SEC media picked Georgia to win the conference over Texas, 88 votes to 57. The people whose job is to rank these teams still have Georgia near the top. The ones filling airtime are the ones arguing about it.

Where does all this leave the Dawgs?

Georgia's got the quarterback, the O-line, and the linebackers to run this league again, and I don't care who's arguing about it on a sports desk or any damn where else. Yeah, the receivers gotta prove it, and that pass rush needs to show the hell up, but that's what camp's for, and I've watched Kirby Smart turn question marks into championships before. Bet against my Dawgs if you want to. I ain't scared, y'all.
